Getting Started

What is a requisition?
A requisition is a secure authorization that connects TrekBudget to one or more bank accounts at a specific financial institution. When you connect your bank through GoCardless, you create a requisition that grants TrekBudget permission to access your account data. One requisition can include multiple accounts from the same bank (e.g., checking, savings, and credit cards from Bank A), but you'll need separate requisitions for each different bank you want to connect. This is why our pricing is based on requisitions rather than individual accounts - it's more flexible for users who have multiple accounts at the same institution.
What is TrekBudget?
TrekBudget is a Google Sheets add-on that allows you to import bank transactions and balances directly into your spreadsheets using the GoCardless Open Banking API. It enables you to manage all your financial data in one place using the tools you already know.
Do I need a GoCardless account?
Yes, TrekBudget requires GoCardless API credentials to connect to your banks. You can create a free developer account at gocardless.com. The GoCardless account is free and provides the secure connection between TrekBudget and your banks.
Which banks are supported?
TrekBudget supports all banks available through the GoCardless Open Banking platform, which includes most European banks. You can check bank availability on the GoCardless website.

Security & Privacy

Is my banking data safe?
Yes. TrekBudget stores zero data on our servers. Your transaction data lives only in your Google Sheets, and bank connections are handled securely through GoCardless using OAuth 2.0 authentication. We never see your banking credentials or transaction data.
Who has access to my financial data?
Only you have access to your financial data. Your transactions are stored in your Google Sheets (controlled by you), and the secure bank connection is managed by GoCardless. TrekBudget simply facilitates the data transfer but never stores or accesses your data.
Do you store my banking credentials?
No. TrekBudget uses OAuth 2.0 authentication, which means you log in directly with your bank and authorize access. We never see or store your banking username or password.

Features & Functionality

How often can I import transactions?
You can manually import transactions as often as you like. Additionally, you can enable automatic daily fetching, which will automatically import yesterday's transactions every day at 2 AM.
How far back can I import historical transactions?
This varies by bank. Most banks provide access to 90 days of historical transactions, while some may offer up to 2 years. The available historical data is determined by each bank's Open Banking API implementation.
Can I customize how transactions are displayed?
Yes! Once transactions are in your Google Sheets, you have complete control. You can add columns, create formulas, build pivot tables, create charts, or reorganize the data however you like. TrekBudget simply imports the raw transaction data.
What happens when my bank connection expires?
Bank connections typically expire after 90-180 days (varies by institution). When this happens, you'll need to renew the connection by re-authorizing with your bank. TrekBudget will preserve your custom account names and settings during renewal using IBAN-based matching.

Pricing & Licensing

Is there a free version?
Yes! The free tier allows you to connect 1 requisition with full access to all features including automatic daily fetching, unlimited transactions, and balance tracking.
What's included in the Pro tier?
Pro tier (€19/year) allows you to connect up to 20 requisitions and includes priority support. All other features remain the same as the free tier.
Can I upgrade or downgrade anytime?
Yes, you can upgrade to Pro or downgrade to Free at any time. If you downgrade and have more than 1 connected requisition, you'll need to remove requisitions until you have only 1 remaining.

Troubleshooting

My transactions aren't importing. What should I do?
First, verify that your bank connection is active and hasn't expired. Check that you've selected the correct date range and that your GoCardless credentials are valid in Settings. If problems persist, contact support@trekbudget.com.
I'm getting duplicate transactions. How do I fix this?
TrekBudget includes duplicate detection based on transaction IDs. If you're seeing duplicates, they may be from overlapping import date ranges. You can safely delete duplicate rows in your spreadsheet, or adjust your import date ranges to avoid overlap.
Auto-fetch isn't working. What's wrong?
Ensure that auto-fetch is enabled in Settings and that your GoCardless credentials are valid. The trigger runs at 2 AM, so check your sheet later in the morning. If it's still not working, there may be an issue with your bank connection that needs renewal.
